What is Mass

4 a) state that mass is a measure of the amount of substance in a body

Mass

Mass is defined as the amount of matter present in a body. The SI unit for mass is kg, kilogram. Mass can be measured using a beam balance. Remember, mass and weight are two separate things. Weight will be covered more in detail later.

To further elaborate on what is mass, let us take a look at the following example.

The ball on the left has more mass than the ball on the right. This is so because it is made up of more rubber compared to the ball on the right.
